Hornby DCC Digital Sound 2009 New Releases

January 7th, 2009

Hornby have four locos with DCC digital sound listed for release this year, and I have to say I am a little excited. One of them is a Class 50! The first commercially available sound fitted class 50 diesel locomotive on the market. It is also Hornby’s first ‘Dutch’ Civil Engineers livery Class 50 that I am aware of, there may have been a Lima release however my interest is only with the Hornby releases. Running number is 50 015 and the loco is named ‘Valient’. Now the bad news, its not due for release until the 4th quarter of 2009. At least I know what to ask Santa for next Christmas though. :) The Hornby part number for this class 50 is R2802XS.

The second diesel set for release is a class 31 in the BR Sub-Sector Trainload Petroleum livery. R2803XS is due for release this quarter, however at the time of writing a quick scan of the online model retailers is telling me it isn’t actually in stock anywhere yet.

There are two steam locomotives also due for release this year, which should keep the steam buffs happy. Firstly we have the R2805XS LNER 4-6-2 Class A4 ‘Herring Gull’ as well as the R2804XS BR Black 4-6-0 Class 5. Although not a ’steamy’ I am tempted by the Gresley designed Class A4, I can see it pulling a trainload of enthusiasts on a day out around my new garage layout.
